Podcast 23 - Chillout

Chillout has to be one of my favorite types of electronica.  To be sure I use the term quite broadly but there is just so much room for interpretation of what is chill.  This style of music allows for an incredible synergy between acoustic instrumentation and electronic production.  How else could you bring such diverse influences together into a single track?  It's really hard to describe with words.  Just take a listen and you'll see what I mean.

If you like these songs or the trip hop podcast from a while back you'll probably be interested in this song I just found yesterday.  It's off a 1998 collection of Kruder and Dorfmeister remixes and the original track is by Lamb (classic trip hop group).  I haven't heard the whole double album but if this track is any indication, I bet its amazing.  And is just me or does this song sound live?  And not just cause of the crowd noise.  Either way, absolutely killer.

Thanks for listening and don't forget to support the artists.  Just so you know I'm doing my part too, I'm ordering the K&D remix album on import right now.

Nice! I have been listening to a lot of this type of music lately at work it kind of puts me in a zone... although sometimes I space out and get nothing done!! This chillout music and also the kind of music on your darkness podcast. Thievery Corporation and Little People I heard a little on Pandora and enjoyed - I'll have to check some of these others out.

I actually got into it through this type of music through Moby's "Porcelain" which I love. Kind of cheesy but I listened to that song a bunch on Koh Phi Phi after I heard it on the movie thats constantly played in Thailand "the beach". Always puts me back in paradise! I noticed a lot of people hating on Moby -- any idea why? I haven't listened to much of his stuff other than that one song... On one site someone said "fuck Moby that fucking bald fuck"! Pretty hostile.

It is likely you already know this dude, but I recently came across him and it seems like your style:
St. Germain (Ludovic Navarre) - album is "Tourist" from around 2000. Here is a link to one of the songs "Montego Bay Spleen"
